What is a Super Visa?
The option of a super visa allows you to visit your child/grandchild for up to 2 years at any one time. Additionally, it is a multi-entry visa that provides multiple entries for a period of up to 10 years.
Eligibility
- Be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
- Have a legal valid travel document (passport)
- Proof of strong ties in your home country; such as a job, property, financial assets, which will satisfy an officer of your intention to leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay
- Proof of sufficient funds to cover your entire stay in Canada
- Undertake and pass a medical examination
- Obtain Canadian medical insurance that is at least $100,000 coverage for at least one year from the date of entry
- Obtain a letter of invitation from your child or grandchild
- Acquire a written financial agreement from the child or grandchild including the necessary income requirements
- Proof of minimum income from your child/grandchild
- Must apply for a Super Visa from outside Canada
Minimum income requirements
The child or grandchild of the applicant must meet a minimum income threshold under the Super Visa eligibility criteria. These thresholds are known as the low-income cut-off (LICO).
The size of the family unit includes the parent(s), grandparent(s), spouses, common-law partners and any dependent children.

Evidence of proof of funds
- Notice of assessment (NOA) or T4/T1 for the most recent tax year
- Employment Insurance (EI) stubs
- Employment letter including salary and date of hiring
- Pay stubs
- Bank statements
Restrictions of a Super Visa
- Super visas do not allow holders to work while in Canada
- A valid super visa cannot be issued past the expiry date of your passport
- Super visas do not allow dependents to be included on the application
