The January 2025 open work permit changes

On January 21, 2025, IRCC introduced open work permit restrictionsfor the family members of temporary residents. In broad terms, the spouses of international students now qualify only where the student is in a master's, doctoral or other listed program, and the spouses of foreign workers only where the worker is in a higher-skilled (TEER 0/1 or select shortage) occupation with enough time left on their permit. Eligibility for most dependent children was removed.
