What do the latest Manitoba PNP draws show?

Draw #279 on September 10 issued 793 Letters of Advice to Apply across four selections. Its occupation-specific selection named a whole occupational category instead of a short NOC list: it considered every profile declaring current Manitoba employment in broad occupational category 3, health occupations, and invited 233. A top-scoring selection of candidates who, or whose spouse, completed post-secondary study in Manitoba invited 508 down to a score of 825, the same lowest score as the July graduate selection. A Francophone selection added 11, and 41 Skilled Worker Stream invitations went to directly invited candidates (Employer Services 17, Francophone Community 12, Ethnocultural Communities 7, Regional Communities 3, Temporary Public Policy 2). 272 of the 793 went to candidates with a valid Express Entry profile (MPNP EOI draw notice, 10 September 2026).

Draw #278 on August 27 was one of the larger rounds of 2026. Manitoba combined three selection methods in a single draw: an occupation-specific selection for two unit groups with acute demand, family physicians and bus and transit drivers; a top-scoring selection of profiles declaring current Manitoba employment in NOC major group 72, technical trades and transportation officers and controllers, which invited 600 candidates down to a score of 731; a Francophone selection of 21; and 58 Skilled Worker Stream invitations for candidates directly invited under a strategic recruitment initiative (Employer Services 28, Francophone Community 16, Regional Communities 7, Ethnocultural Communities 4, Temporary Public Policy 3). Two weeks earlier, Draw #277 on August 13 was a small strategic-initiative-only round of 53.

Read across the year, the Manitoba PNP draws fall into two shapes. A small round of 50 to 130 Letters of Advice to Apply is made up only of strategic recruitment invitations; a large round layers occupation-specific and top-scoring selections on top of those invitations. Draws #271 to #274 (May to early July) were all small rounds, #275 and #276 in July were large, #277 in August was small, and #278 and #279 were large. That is why the LAA totals swing from 53 in one notice to 2,060 in another, and why a single headline number never tells you much on its own. How the MPNP decides who gets a Letter of Advice to Apply

Candidates for the Skilled Worker in Manitoba and Skilled Worker Overseas pathways submit an Expression of Interest scored out of 1,000 on language ability, age, work experience, education, adaptability and Manitoba connections. The profile sits in the pool until a draw reaches it. Manitoba then decides, round by round, whom to invite, and since 2024 it has leaned on three methods: occupation-specific selections targeting NOC codes in shortage (physicians, teachers, early childhood educators, bus drivers, aerospace trades and all health occupations in 2026); top-scoring selections within a named occupational group of people currently employed in Manitoba, which is where the published lowest scores come from; and strategic recruitment initiatives, where employers, ethnocultural and Francophone community organisations, regional communities and the temporary work-permit public policy identify candidates who are then invited directly.

An invitation from any of these rounds is a Letter of Advice to Apply, giving 60 days to file the full MPNP application with fees and supporting documents. Language test results, an education credential assessment where one is required, proof of settlement funds and evidence of the Manitoba connection you claimed all have to line up with the Expression of Interest you submitted. A provincial nomination follows if the application is approved, and the candidate then applies to IRCC for permanent residence, either through Express Entry with 600 additional comprehensive ranking system points if they hold a valid profile and a job seeker validation code, or as a base nominee if not. Manitoba reports the Express Entry share in every notice.

Because the occupational group is doing so much of the work in the current selections, the NOC code on your profile matters more than it used to. Major group 72 and broad category 9 are NOC 2021 groupings, not job titles, and the same is true of broad category 3, health occupations, selected in full in Draw #279, so two people who describe their work the same way can land in different selections. Checking the unit group and the TEER categories your duties actually map to is the single highest-value hour of preparation before the next round.

What the 2026 draw pattern means for your profile

• If you work in Manitoba in a listed occupation, watch the occupation-specific selections. Draw #270 invited every eligible teacher and early childhood educator; #275 every eligible physician; #276 the aerospace trades; #278 family physicians and bus drivers; #279 every eligible worker in broad category 3, health occupations (233 LAAs). Check your NOC code against each notice.
• If you work in Manitoba in a broad occupational group, the top-scoring selections are your draw, and the cut-off depends on the group: 632 for manufacturing (category 9), 731 for technical trades (group 72). Language results and Manitoba work experience move the score most, so a retest is often worth more than any other single change.
• If you graduated in Manitoba, the July selection of 1,874 Manitoba post-secondary graduates at 825 was the largest single selection of the year, and the International Education Stream ran a Graduate Internship Pathway selection in the same round. Draw #279 on September 10 selected 508 more candidates who, or whose spouse, completed post-secondary study in Manitoba, again with a lowest score of 825.
• If you are overseas without a connection, the honest reading is that Skilled Worker Overseas candidates have only been invited through direct strategic recruitment in 2026. A Manitoba employer, community or Francophone initiative is the door; a high score alone is not.
• If you speak French, the Francophone selection appears in most larger rounds (11 to 84 LAAs) and is one of the few routes that does not require Manitoba employment.

How the Manitoba PNP draws compare with the other provinces

Every province is working with a reduced 2026 allocation under the federal provincial nominee program and prioritising in-province workers, but the mechanics differ. The Alberta PNP draw pages score the Worker Expression of Interest out of 100 and run separate rounds per pathway with cut-offs between 50 and 73. British Columbia runs targeted Care, Build and Innovate draws with scores in the 68 to 136 range. The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program and the OINP use occupation lists and notifications of interest rather than a single published cut-off. The practical comparison is not which province publishes the lowest number. It is which province runs a selection your profile actually falls inside. A trades worker in Winnipeg with a Manitoba job and a mid-range Expression of Interest score has a clearer route through the Manitoba PNP draws than through a province with a higher headline invitation count but no matching stream.

When is the next Manitoba PNP draw?

Manitoba does not pre-announce its draw dates. The 2026 rounds from May onward have been held two weeks apart on Thursdays, most recently Draw #278 on August 27 and Draw #279 on September 10, 2026. That spacing describes past rounds only. Manitoba sets the date and the shape of every notice itself, and the mix of small and large rounds in the table above follows no fixed sequence. Being ready matters more than predicting the date. Keep your Expression of Interest current, because Manitoba scores what is in the profile on the day of the round, not what you meant to update. Language results expire; a lapsed test can drop a profile out of a top-scoring selection it would otherwise have been inside. Confirm your NOC unit group against your real duties, keep your Manitoba employment details and your Express Entry profile number in sync, and have your reference letters and settlement funds evidence assembled before an LAA arrives, because 60 days is short once documents have to be requested from employers and institutions abroad.
